Why do People do the things they do?
Do you ever have a day that makes you wonder why people do what they do? I do. In fact, I seem to have one of those days every Sunday. The hi-rise I live in gets vegetables from our neighborhood community garden on that day each week. It’s interesting to watch the people who come to take some. First, you have those who don’t even wait until all the vegetables are put out on the table. Then, you have people who grab all of a certain thing and don’t leave any for others. Why do the few have to ruin things for the many?
The question posed in the post title isn’t a new thought by any means. I’ve been wondering about it for years. It was brought to the top of my mind recently by some things that have happened recently. My hi-rise has regular food distributions during the summer and sometimes at other times of year. There are a few people who grab as much as they can and don’t even think about leaving anything for others who may come later. Who steps up when something needs doing? Who volunteers and says, I will? Who sees something that needs fixing or cleaning and just goes and does it? The doers. The carers. The community members. Who sits by and watches others work? Who complains but never takes initiative Never offer to help? Who is content to let others toil? The observers. The self centered. Those who don’t care.
